Wake Up the Earth 2012

Last month I teamed up once again with Spontaneous Celebrations to shoot their annual Wake Up the Earth parade in Jamaica Plain. I am a big fan of WUTE because I used to participate in it as a child and every year it seems to get better and better. The festival was started in 1979 when a group of JP residents and activists successfully protested the expansion of I-95 into JP. It became "a celebration of what can be accomplished when people of all traditions, cultures, ages, and beliefs come together."

This is probably the most "JP" photo I've ever taken. Love it!

At the end of the parade, there is a huge festival which includes food vendors, crafts, dancing, and live music throughout the afternoon.

Wake Up the Earth takes place once a year on the first Saturday in May. I'm already looking forward to next year! To see more images of the day, click here.
