Instagram Round-Up: Fall

It's been a while since I did one of these, huh?! Here's a sampling of what's been going on around here this fall- porch decorating, Halloweening, figuring out how to work the heating system in the new house, photo shootin', farm-to-table dinners, beach walks, Indian summer days, cheering at the New York City Marathon, etc. Looking forward to what the rest of the season brings!

How has your fall been so far?

Halloweened at Sowa Open Market

Wow, what a crazy day. We all seriously lucked out with the weather- cool and sunny all day, perfect for an outdoor market. The decorations and costumes were amazing and the crowd was having as much fun with it as the vendors.

Purely by coincidence my booth was right next to a vendor, Nate of Hijacked Ceramics, who was dressed as a blue-ish zombie in a tuxedo with a blue shirt. The whole day people were asking if we'd planned our costumes together (we did not) and taking our pictures. We were like undead celebrities.
He actually made the worms crawling out of his face himself out of Femo clay.

This was my other undead neighbor, Shara, of Shara Porter. Great zombie look.

The Corpse Bride

I didn't win the costume contest (although I did make the top ten!) but the winners were definitely deserving. The vendor contest winner was Lego Batman (Jen of Zooguu) and the customer contest winner was the zombie impaled by a traffic cone. Brilliant.

If you want to see more photos, go to the Open Market Flickr page, there are a lot more that are worth a look!

Market of the Living Dead

Oh man, I just got an email from Sowa and I just had to post it here. This Sunday is the final market of the season and also a huge Halloween extravaganza. Not only will there be a big costume contest with prizes (and a pumpkin carving contest) but the {NewNew} will be up from NYC!
I will also be there and yes, I will be all decked out in a freaky and bizarre-o costume, don't you worry.

AFAS Pumkin, Gourde and Fruit Carving Contest
The Gaslight Grill will be hosting a fruit and veggie carving contest on their patio sponsored by AFAS. The event is open to the public carving and begins at 11AM, judging at 4PM. The farmers market will have tons of fresh gourdes, pumpkins and fruits dying to be cut.

Pumpkin Carver Extraordinaire, Travis Reckner!
Travis Reckner from the Roger Williams Zoo will be displaying some of his renowned carved pumpkins and doing demos outside of Rooca Restaurant starting at 1PM, next to the Sowa Produce Market at 500 Harrison Ave.

No Tricks, Just Treats

As much as I have really not enjoyed living in a construction zone for the past few months, it is really bothering me now that I'm reading all of these crafty blogs with their Halloween treat project ideas! I really hit the jackpot today when I discovered One Pretty Thing. They are a super cool craft round-up of project ideas from all different sites but the ones I'm liking the most right now are the "Halloween Food and Drink Roundups."

Some of these things look so delicious (or gross but that is the point) and it's killing me that I do not have a kitchen in which to make them. Fortunately, one recipe featured is a "no bake" and I'm definitely going to try it out this week:
