Fitness and Dance Photography: Move Sweat Love with Ali

Here's Ali! You may remember her from a shoot I did last year outside on the Greenway. This year she wanted something different so we took it inside and got these fitness and dance portraits (that I particularly love in black & white!). Styled by b.fetching, hair & make-up by Jordan Wells:

Thanks again, Ali! You're a rockstar! See you in class :)

Yoga and Dance Photography in Boston: Erica Bornstein

I started a wish list on Pinterest of yoga poses I thought were cool and would love to shoot someday. Without even knowing this, yoga and Zumba instructor Erica (who teaches at Sweat & Soul Yoga, Back Bay Yoga, and Soul.Train) showed up to our shoot and nailed most of them! This girl has some serious skills, both on a yoga mat and in the dance studio:

Thanks again Erica, you were a pleasure to work with!!!

Yoga Photography: Jessica

Meet Jess! Jess is a yoga instructor (with a serious interest in fashion!). When she hired stylist Keely Witkoski to help create a look for our shoot and Keely took one look at her closet, she knew fashion had to be incorporated into the yoga theme. Here's what we created with this in mind:

Such a fun shoot! Thanks again Jess!

Fitness Photography: Boxer Shannon of the Nonantum Boxing Club

When Shannon walked into our shoot and announced that she liked everything she's seen that I've done and that she'd do whatever I thought would be cool for the shoot, I knew we would have some fun. Since she loves boxing and owns a gym, the Nonantum Boxing Club, with her husband, we started with some jabs and crosses before moving outside and changing things up. She also brought the awesome Everlast wraps and pink gloves which made for great props.

love these gloves!

Putting Photos to Work

I thought it might be interesting to do a post on some of the ways my clients are using the images we create together. Generally they are looking for photos for marketing purposes- websites, flyers, postcards, blogs, Facebook fan pages, etc. Here are a few examples of how some of the photos are getting put to work!

Last fall I did a shoot for activewear company, DA Active. This is a preview of their Fall 2013 line which they showed at the Surf Expo in Orlando, FL.

Pilates guru, Jennifer Phelan, used the images to advertise Pilates events she was teaching around the city, including one sponsored by Zico Coconut Water.

Websites! Most of my clients are looking for quality photos for their websites and here are a few examples! From top left: www.alibaldassare.com, www.laurastevensonpilates.com, www.jeannieyoga.com, www.jenniferphelan.com.

A little inspiration can go a long way. Lauren of Sweat with Lauren Hefez used this photo and quote to inspire her followers on instagram.

Fitness Portrait Shoot with Personal Trainer Kristin Lorenze

Meet Kristin Lorenze! Kristin trains clients privately and also at Get In Shape For Women in Wellesley, MA. Kristin came to me looking for photos for her new website and marketing materials.

She wanted some shots to submit to magazines that feature fitness professionals, like Oxygen Magazine. We did a few clean shots like this before moving on to the more dramatic lighting set-ups...

 Stretch!

Thanks to Kristin for a great shoot!

Fitness Photography: CrossCycle's Chris Gagnon

When Chris Gagnon started telling me his ideas for the shoot, I had no idea what to expect when the day finally came. What he brought with him was lots of props- kettlebells, an exercise ball, weights, tires, and even a bike (which makes sense since he is the creator of a popular strength training program called CrossCycleยฎ). He also brought his friend, Angela, who turned into a prop herself!

I was pretty psyched that they were willing to try out this pose- and they nailed it.
Push-ups off of another person- they make it look easy but it was not!

Fitness Photo Shoot: Personal Trainer Kara Crow

love this sports bra! it's the Free to Be Bra by lululemon

Last fall I did a photo shoot with the beautiful (and buff!) Kara Crow, a personal trainer at Equinox Franklin St and fitness model (check out her latest work with Cybex International!). We were in the studio doing a mix of headshots, poses, and action shots, and had so much fun the session seemed to fly by:

In the Studio: Yoga Photography with Jeannie

When Wellseley-based yoga teacher Jeannie Goldstone contacted me about photos for her new website, I couldn't wait to get her in the studio. She was looking for simple, clean, black and white photos of yoga poses which I love to shoot. Jeannie only wanted to do poses that her potential clients wouldn't find too "intimidating" and here are a few of my favs-

Fitness and Fashion with Jennifer Phelan Pilates

Last month I had the change to work with the fabulous Jenn of Jennifer Phelan Pilates. I did a shoot with Jenn last summer and was psyched to work with her again; she loves to bring the drama and glamour (which I love too)! Her stylist, Keely Witkowski of B. Fetching, makes sure that even in workout attire, she is still fashionable and she was great to have on set. Here are a few of my favorites:

Model: Jenn Phelan
Stylist: B. Fetching

In the Studio: Yoga Photography with Sylvia

When I found out that my college roommate's little sister, Sylvia, is a yoga enthusiast working at lululemon in Boston, I had to get her into the studio for a yoga-inspired photo shoot. Luckily, she was more than willing, and I was quickly impressed by her flexibility and yoga experience! Here are a few of my favs-

It was so nice out that day too so we went onto the studio roof for these-

Thanks again Sylvia, you are amazing!
